Chevrolet Cruze –Everything you need without breaking the bank.

If you are in need of a new car, but the thought of selling a kidney to get one isn’t appealing, it’s time to take a look at Chevy’s line-up. We’ve got the safety features and amenities you want, with a price tag and financing that will fit your budget. One of our most economical choices is the Chevy Cruze . The Cruze will change the way you look at compact cars. You no longer have to sacrifice technology and styling to the almighty gas mileage and price.

Pricing on the Cruze starts under $20,000, well below the price of many used cars. The Cruze family offers a variety of power options, from the six speed, manual transmission that gets 36 mpg to the Cruze Eco that gets the most efficient mileage of any gasoline engine in America, at an outstanding 42 mpg. Even with its efficiency, the Cruze engine doesn’t skimp on power. The available 1.4L turbocharged engine will put out 138 horsepower and accelerate without feeling sluggish.

The exterior of the Cruze is built for efficiency, but don’t tell it that. The Cruze offers a sleekly designed body with close attention to detail that just isn’t found in other cars in its class. The beveled hood and grill design are details you would expect to find on more expensive cars. The optional RS package adds additional styling to the Cruze exterior and includes:

  • Unique Front and Rear Fascias
  • Rocker Moldings
  • Rear Spoiler
  • Foglamps (standard on LTZ)
  • Uplevel Instrument Cluster (standard on LTZ)

Attention to detail doesn’t stop on the outside. The interior of the Cruze is designed for flexibility. The interior features more interior room than the Ford Focus sedan and Toyota Corolla. If you are hauling cargo instead of passengers, the 60/40 folding rear seats will give you 15.4 cubic feet of cargo space, more than the Ford Focus sedan or the 2011 Honda Civic. Optional leather seating allows you to customize the Cruze to fit your personality.

Chevy never skimps on safety, and the Cruze is no exception. Cruze comes with 10 air bags standard; that’s four more than the Focus or Civic. The 2011 Cruze was an IIHS Top Safety Pick and received a 5-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). At Chevy, we don’t just aim for “good enough.” We are continually innovating to keep our drivers safe on the road.

Cruze helps you keep in touch with the technology you love. Plug in your mp3 player or smartphone via the USB outlet, and utilize OnStar® navigation to help you get to your destination. The 2012 Chevy Equinox—Form meets Function

Some people need a practical car. There are children to shuttle, errands to run, and many highway miles to drive with no time or money to waste on costly car repairs. Some people want a fun car. There are adventures to seek with the on-board navigational system, hills to climb with a powerful engine, and a sleek exterior to go with it all. Then there are the people who want it all. Why can’t you pick up the weekly groceries in style while listening to your custom Pandora® station streaming from your car’s speakers? Why can’t you get over 30 mpg while effortless climbing hills and hugging turns? Well, with the 2012 Chevy Equinox , you can. There’s no need to compromise between the practical car and the fun car. The Equinox is both.

Practicality

The Equinox is a crossover built to work. It seats five comfortably, with the most rear legroom in its class—more than Honda, Toyota, or Ford. The Multi-Flex® sliding rear seat can slide forward to maximize cargo space, or back, to give 39.9 inches of legroom to backseat passengers.

It also has its competitors beat in fuel efficiency. The Equinox gets 32 mpg on the highway, beating out the CR-V, Rav 4, and even the Escape Hybrid. The automatic six-speed transmission allows you to travel up to 600 miles between fill-ups, saving you precious time at the pump. Equinox also offers an eco button that allows you to put the motor in fuel-saving mode to see the savings really add up.

Safety comes standard on the Chevy Equinox. The Equinox comes standard with StabiliTrak electronic stability control system. It also comes with a lane departure detection system that will alert you when your vehicle begins drifting to another lane without indication of a lane change. You can opt for the Forward Collision Alert detection system on V6 models that uses a camera to warn you when a front-end collision appears imminent, so that you can apply brakes or change direction in time to avoid the collision.

For rough driving conditions, you can opt for the AWD Equinox. The on-demand all-wheel drive system will transfer the power to the tires with the best traction to help you avoid losing control on slippery roads.  If the worst should happen, and a collision occurs, six air bags and the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Top tethers for Children) system will help keep you and your family safe. OnStar® will detect collisions and call for help even when you can’t.

Fun

The Equinox is designed with a rugged exterior in your choice of seven great colors. For a little extra flash, get the LTZ package and add chrome accents that include including chrome door handles; chrome, heated, manual–folding mirrors; roof rack side rails with bright chrome inserts; and front and rear bright fascia lowers.

For hauling lots of cargo around, the optional power lift gate make life a breeze, and the all-wheel drive option makes sure you get where you want to go. You can set the power lift gate to not rise above a specified level to avoid contact with the garage door or the cargo overhead.

Use the OnStar® RemoteLink™ app to start, unlock, or run diagnostic checks on your Equinox from anywhere. While on the road, choose your soundtrack with SiriusXM Satellite Radio® or your own custom Pandora® station streamed using the MyLink Touch system. StabiliTrak®: Keeping You Safe Behind the Scenes

There are many reasons people choose a car. A vehicle’s passenger capacity, gas-mileage, power, and color are all things we notice every day. However, one of the most important parts of today’s cars is something not a lot of people are familiar with. GM’s electronic stability control system, StabiliTrak, is working diligently behind the scenes, every mile you drive, to make sure you arrive safely at your destination.

One of the reasons people may not be familiar with StabiliTrak is “electronic stability control system” just doesn’t sound like a very fun thing to talk about. But ESC systems are one of the most important safety innovations in recent years. In research done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, for vehicles equipped with an ESC systems, the rate of involvement in a fatality crash was reduced by at least 33%, and even further reduced for large SUVs.

Stabilitrak works by reading the driver’s steering direction and doing what it can electronically to keep the car going that direction. If you need to jerk the wheel to avoid a collision, StabiliTrak can apply the brake or adjust the engine power to make the vehicle go in the direction you indicated. This will increase the vehicle response time in slippery road conditions or in case the vehicle has to make a sudden direction change. The only indication StabiliTrak is hard at work is that you are still on the road. It can prevent you from fishtailing or plowing in difficult driving conditions. StabiliTrak will also help prevent rollovers. Vehicles with a higher center of gravity, like large SUVs, especially benefit from the system’s ability to keep the vehicle in contact with the driving surface.

If this sounds like a high-tech system that is only available on the most high-end luxury vehicles, you would be partially correct. StabiliTrak is a very smart, high-tech, system that can react to real time conditions keep you safe. However, StabiliTrak is not just installed on a few select luxury models. Every new GM vehicle comes standard with StabiliTrak, keeping you and your family safe. GM understands that the best crash protection is avoiding the crash in the first place, and the introduction of its life saving electronic stability control system, StabiliTrak, goes a long way in reaching that goal.

To learn more about the StabiliTrak system, which is standard on all of our Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles, drop by Crossroads of Joplin or give us a call today.

The Chevy Volt—Innovation with the Driver in Mind

The Chevy Volt has arrived. This car is loaded with smart technology aimed at saving the driver time and money. This electric car is more flexible than any other on the market due to its dual electric and gas hybrid system. This innovation is just one of the reasons the Volt has racked up an impressive awards list including Motor Trend’s 2011 Car of the Year, Green Car Journal’s 2011 Green Car of the Year, Automobile’s 2011 Automobile of the Year, and the NAIAS North American International Car of the Year…to name a few.

Gas When You Need it, Electricity When You Don’t

The Volt’s battery will power the car an estimated 35 miles on one charge. During that time, no gasoline is used. If the driver needs to go farther, the Volt’s generator will convert gas to electric power to continue on for up to 375 miles on one tank. No complicated calculations or keeping track of mileage involved; just keep driving and the Volt will switch over.

The Volt can be charged from a standard household outlet using its 120V charging kit for a total charge time of ten hours. A 240V system can be professionally installed to reduce charging time to four hours. The OnStar RemoteLinkTM app will check the charging status of the car and can send an alert when the Volt is fully charged. The average cost of a full charge on the Volt is $1.50. That’s 35 miles for less than half of the current price of a gallon of gas and no emissions.

Drive Eco-friendly Without Sacrificing Amenities

The Volt may be designed with efficiency in mind, but it doesn’t skip on the perks. The optional MyLink allows users to stream content from their smart phones. OnStar® Directions & Connections® features turn-by-turn navigation, and comes standard for three years. Volt also comes with a three month trial of XM Satellite Radio, to stay connected with music, talk, and sports anywhere.

The available seven–speaker Bose® audio system features a subwoofer that’s 30% smaller, 40% lighter and uses 50% less energy than comparable Bose® systems. The interior has also not been ignored with leather seats that feature Ceramic White, Spice Red or Green inserts and matching interior accents.

Safety

The Volt features eight advanced air bags including head and curtain side–impact air bags for outboard front and rear occupants as well as frontal side–impact and new knee air bags for the driver and front passenger. Drivers can feel confident knowing that StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System with Traction Control is hard at work, taking care of dangerous driving conditions. If a collision should occur, OnStar® will alert authorities so that help is sent as soon as possible.

With all of these features, and government rebates that can sweeten the deal, it’s time to come by and see why everyone is in love with the Chevy Volt. Come by Crossroads and check out the Volts. Our sales staff can help with any questions you may have.

Green From Start to Finish: Many Vehicles, One Goal

We’ve covered what General Motors is doing both inside and outside their facilities to reduce and reuse waste, as well as invest in alternative energy sources. Today, we get down to the really fun stuff: the vehicles. Notice, I didn’t just say “cars” because at GM, your choices for environmentally friendly driving aren’t just limited to compacts. They have those, but if your life involves hauling a lot of cargo or people on a regular basis, you need choices. And GM’s family of Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac has plenty to offer.

Material Innovation

Paint serves an important role in the form and function of a vehicle. It acts as a barrier from the environment, protecting all of the metal and other body materials of the car from the sun, dirt, and water. Previously, automotive paints had to contain harsh solvents to meet such extreme environmental demands. But Chevy has developed a water-based, primer, paint, and clear coat system that not only minimizes the use of solvents, but can be applied in a single baking process, saving energy. You can admire this innovative technique on the new 2012 Chevy Sonic. Same gorgeous shine, less chemicals and energy.

The Chevy Impala also features a new rear seat design, utilizing a blend of traditional and newly developed low VOC foam. This not only reduces the environmental impact, but helps make the overall car lighter, increasing fuel efficiency. As plant based foam technology continues to develop, GM can adapt it to other model lines as well. This is all part of the overall effort to leave no stone unturned in providing the highest quality vehicles with the lowest environmental impact possible.

Under the Hood

Today there are many options to power your vehicle. Chevy understands that different people have different requirements from the vehicles, and offer a variety of power options and models to accommodate everyone. From traditional gasoline engines that are so efficient their gas mileage rivals some competitors’ hybrids, to the all-electric Spark, coming soon, GM has you covered.

Today’s gas engines are stingy on fuel consumption, and much less picky about where it comes from. From the sub-compact Sonic to the crossover Equinox, the hardest part of buying a Chevy that gets over 30 mpg is deciding which one to get. GM also makes their vehicles with FlexFuel technology, allowing drivers to utilize E85 ethanol fuel in addition to traditional gasoline.

In addition to improved efficiency in gasoline engines, GM makes hybrid a Chevy Tahoe and Silverado as well as a Cadillac Escalade for those needing a lot of power without a lot of fuel consumption. These models are great for families as well as businesses to reduce fuel costs. An additional option coming in early 2012 is the compressed natural gas (CNG) Silverado. Compressed natural gas will give approximately the same gas mileage as traditional gasoline at about one-third of the cost. Public CNG stations are gaining momentum across the country, and GM is responding.

The final power option available is electricity. Use the same power it takes to turn on your lamp to go get groceries or commute to the office. Chevy introduced its Volt to critical acclaim in 2010, and to date no one has matched its unique combination of electric power with the convenience of taking longer trips by utilizing gas to recharge the battery. The volt can go an estimated 35-40 miles on a charge. Simply plug the car in at home, and if your round trip is less than 35 miles, you never use a drop of gas. If you need to go farther, you are generally out of luck with other electric models, but that is where the Volt is unique. Fill the Volt up with gas, and its efficient on-board generator will take you an additional 375 miles on one tank. If an all-electric option sounds appealing, Chevy will also be introducing their innovative 100% electric Spark in 2012. The Spark is just the latest in GM’s constant break-throughs in alternative energy.

No matter your lifestyle or price range, GM makes an environmentally friendly vehicle you can feel good about driving. You can feel even better know that you are investing in a company that is investing in the earth across all of its operations. When it comes to being green, Chevy really is an American Revolution.

Green From Start to Finish: Beyond the Plant

Students make nesting boxes out of Chevy Volt battery covers

Previously we looked at General Motor’s commitment to green practices at its manufacturing facilities. They continue to work globally to reduce and re-purpose waste in order to become landfill-free at 100% of their plants. They are currently over halfway there. That is all well and good, but what about GM’s non-manufacturing facilities, not to mention the products they are producing at their improved facilities? Today, we will venture outside GM’s facilities, and see how the “Beyond Now” vision fits into company’s future. Finally, next time, we get to take a look at the green technology GM has put into the vehicles themselves.

Many of the initiatives implemented at GM’s landfill free manufacturing plants have been adapted to work at its distribution warehouses as well. One of the first, and not always easy, steps to take when starting a serious recycling program is having a way to separate all of that waste. By redesigning the way that large cardboard containers are attached to their wooden pallets, one facility is now able to save over $20,000 a year. Recycling has not only proven to be great for the earth, it help keep a company more resilient to the spikes in costs of raw materials. This means more of the cost of a vehicle goes into the parts, labor, and design, and you aren’t paying for the cost of cardboard boxes those parts were stored in.

GM has also been active in the community, committing to spend $40 million over the next 5 years on 16 different carbon emission cutting projects. The goal is to reduce Chevy’s carbon footprint by 4.6 million metric tons. The variety of projects chosen includes investments in wind farms, biomass energy production, and recovering waste heat from machinery that would normally be lost to the environment. This is a time of great innovation in potential alternative energy sources and General Motors has stepped up to be a leader in finding the best applications for the newest technologies. GM is already being recognized by the scientific community for their efforts.

Chevrolet has shown tremendous courage to take on a carbon reduction commitment in a difficult political and economic environment. The company’s integrated approach – looking at process, product and consumer emissions – is absolutely the right way to ensure that efforts to combat climate change are not only aligned with but also support long-term growth.” — Mark Kenber, CEO of The Climate Group

Along with their large-scale efforts, GM has also taken a community approach to the green lifestyle. In April of this year, fifth grade students visited GM’s Baltimore operations office to put some of their recycling knowledge to work. They were taken dumpster diving by GM’s environmental engineers and brainstormed ways to repurpose what they found. In Detroit, students teamed up with facilities engineers to make nesting boxes for ducks and screech owls out of Chevrolet Volt battery covers. The students learned about recycling and their environment, while the ducks received a cozy home to lay their eggs, and battery covers were kept out of the landfill. Not a bad deal all around.

To conclude the series, next time, we get to the innovative green technology that GM is incorporating into their line-up of vehicles. From compacts to full-size workhorses, being environmentally friendly has never been so much fun.

Chevy and the American Dream

It is sunrise as his silhouette steps out of his one ton Chevy flatbed and on to four hundred acres of pasture that still cling to last night’s chill. He can hear the sound of cattle mooing in anxious wait of their early morning breakfast. He is a farmer, the life blood of our great Country.  It is sunset and the US Marine on leave revs up the engine of his 6.2 liter 426 horse power V8 SS Camaro. He is ready to go out and enjoy the open roads of the land he protects. It is eight in the morning and the stay-at-home mother, from small town USA, loads up her Tahoe. She is ready to drop the kids off at school and meet the rest of her day head on.

What do all of these seemingly different people have in common? Aside from being hardworking individuals who value their freedom and are enjoying the benefits of a Free and strong Country, each of these are also owners of a Chevrolet. Chevrolet, who recently celebrated one hundred years of providing integrity and innovation to its customers, is nothing short of the image of America mirrored by a machine.

The Cowboy and his Chevy Silverado Dually, the soccer mom in her Chevy Traverse, the eco conscious who drive the Chevy Volt, or the college student in their Chevy Cruze.  No matter the person, there is a Chevrolet waiting to meet their needs.

Through imagination, innovation, and determination, GM (the home to Chevrolet) has managed to take the American Dream and add wheels to it. Unlike their competitors, Chevy has managed to corner the market in one very important area, Patriotism.  After all “Chevy Runs Deep”; so deep in fact that people who drive a Silverado, or an Impala, or the Equinox actually refer to themselves as “Chevy People”. How’s that for a loyal customer base?

Chevy People demand as much from their vehicles as they demand from themselves.  No matter if it is a 3.73 rear-end to pull a horse trailer or a five-star crash rating to ensure their family’s safety, people look to Chevrolet to meet all their needs, and Chevrolet delivers.

In a nutshell, the American farmer, the cowboy, the soccer mom, and the US Marine are all connected by a little golden bow that is the symbol for Chevrolet. Chevrolet is something like a rock that Americans can confidently build their lives upon.

What Chevy are you?
